The Stellenbosch University Library and Information Service (LIS) has decided to create a Makerspace in the existing room 1033 of the SU Library. The overall purpose of the SU Library Makerspace is to provide a collaborative technologically focused environment for students to invent, create and learn while sharing. The facility is expected to support technical activities such as prototype design and construction, circuit design and assembly, and rapid three-dimensional modelling.
The scope of work was limited to the existing room 1033 of the SU Library, including the passage area between the eastern wall of room 1033 and the western wall of the existing Learning Commons area. It includes the structural, mechanical, along with the electrical and data works required to repurpose room 1033 as a library Makerspace area.
